Digital Education Action Plan mid-term review: SOLIDAR Foundation’s Position Paper

This month, in the framework of the Digital Education Action Plan (DEAP) Midterm Review, SOLIDAR Foundation participated in a Strategic Dialogue organised by DG EMPL. After DG EAC’s CSO Consultation that took place in July, the Strategic Dialogue was another moment where stakeholders could have their say on the Action Plan and give recommendations on how to proceed. SOLIDAR’s contribution revolved around a more holistic approach to education, the worrying lack of basic digital skills, and addressing privacy concerns, and elaborated this in its position paper.

  • In more detail, SOLIDAR Foundation believes that the DEAP should continue beyond 2027 as the underlaying challenges of digitalisation will not disappear.
  • To tackle the challenges, it is important to take a holistic approach to digital education and see the importance of including non-formal and informal learning in obtaining digital skills.
  • Global Citizenship Education and Digital Citizenship Education go hand in hand in improving basic digital skills across the EU.
  • Education is a public good and should not be commodified by Big Tech Companies.
