Joint Statement: Omnibus erodes EU corporate accountability and slashes human rights and environmental protections
SOLIDAR has joined over 360 organisations in calling on the European Parliament and EU Council to act to block the Omnibus proposal. This proposal risks jeopardising the very objectives of crucial corporate sustainability laws and undermines not only the EU’s commitment towards its green ambitions and protection of human rights, but also its credibility as a reliable law maker.
The Omnibus proposal, which seeks to revise the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) gives a clear signal about this Commission’s priorities: President von der Leyen is willing to put human rights, worker’s rights, and environmental protections on the line, all in the name of deregulation.
Civil society has serious concerns about this move. The revisions proposed within the Omnibus package would water down laws ensuring corporate accountability and mark a significant step in the wrong direction for workers around the world and for our planet. What’s more, the design of this proposal was not transparent, and the voices of civil society were excluded from the process.
