ETUC and ITUC calls on the EU Council and EU Member States to recognize the State of Palestine

In view of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) that will take place on October 18th, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) have sent a letter asking the EU Council and EU Member States to recognize the State of Palestine.

The letter recalls EU’s obligation to promote respect for human rights in all areas of its external action (Art. 3(5) TEU and 21(1) TEU) as well as an obligation to develop common policies and actions to consolidate and support democracy, the rule of law, human rights and the principles of international law in all fields of international relations (Art. 21(2)(b) TEU), and so its Member States.

SOLIDAR endorses this letter as it is very much in line with the demands SOLIDAR and its members agreed on at the Annual General Assembly. SOLIDAR continues to work closely with the supporters of the Campaign for the Recognition of the State of Palestine for this important step to happen at EU and national level.
