SOLIDAR at the UN High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development: bringing the CSOs voice into governmental reporting

This year, SOLIDAR will be in New York to participate in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2019.

The HLPF is a central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and provides for the full and effective participation of all States Members of the United Nations and States Members of specialised agencies.

As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda encourages Member States to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven. These national reviews are expected to serve as a basis for the regular reviews by the HLPF. Regular reviews by the HLPF are to be voluntary, state-led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and shall provide a platform for partnerships, including through the active participation of civil society organisations (CSOs).

Together with its Member IDC Serbia, SOLIDAR will follow the Voluntary National Review of the Serbian Government and expose its alternative views on the implementation of the SDGs in that country. Furthermore, SOLIDAR will be presenting the report “Falling through the cracks: Exposing inequalities in Europe and beyond’”, coordinated by the European-wide project Make Europe Sustainable for All (MESA) and SDG Watch Europe, at the occasion of a side event at the HLPF organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), while launching its e-booklet of case studies “Sustainability through SOLIDAR(ity). Stories of transformation” to showcase how SOLIDAR Members are actively contributing to the implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
